Bell Finalizes Bahrain’s AH-1Z Program Milestone

Bell Textron Inc., a subsidiary of Textron Inc., has finalized the AH-1Z program of record (POR) for the Kingdom of Bahrain. Bell handed over the last production aircraft to the Naval Air Systems Command in December 2022. The inaugural Bahrain AH-1Zs showcased their in-country presence at the Bahrain Air Show, with six already delivered. The remaining six helicopters will undergo final preparations for shipment to Bahrain in collaboration with the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) before being transported in 2023.

“Kudos to the Kingdom of Bahrain for acquiring the most advanced iteration of the AH-1Zs,” remarked Mike Deslatte, Bell’s vice president and H-1 program director. “As a pivotal force in the region, Bahrain’s defensive capabilities will be significantly enhanced by the cutting-edge technology of the Viper.”

The successful conclusion of the Bahrain AH-1Z program of record follows Bell’s completion of the U.S. Marine Corps program of record, marking two significant H-1 production accomplishments within a single year. The AH-1Z Viper represents Bell’s latest generation of specialized attack helicopters. The U.S. Marine Corps effectively operates the AH-1Z globally, capitalizing on its streamlined logistics requirements for shipboard and expeditionary missions.

“Capabilities are just one aspect when it comes to upgrading an aircraft fleet,” Deslatte further stated. “By ensuring the aircraft can function with minimal logistical support, the Viper empowers leaders to respond with enhanced speed and flexibility to swiftly changing operations.”

Bell is committed to collaborating with the Kingdom of Bahrain concerning post-shipping evaluations and re-assembly to ensure compliance with the configuration specified in the FMS agreement. Besides manufacturing and delivering the new Vipers, Bell will provide ongoing support throughout the aircraft’s lifecycle to guarantee reliability, survivability, and effectiveness on today’s battlefield.
