Turkey’s Indigenous 5th Generation Light Attack Aircraft Soars on Its First Flight

Türkiye’s pioneering domestically crafted jet-powered training and light assault aircraft, Hürjet, triumphantly accomplished its maiden flight on Sunday.

Engineered by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), the Hürjet commenced its engine operations in February.

With its single-engine, tandem cockpit and cutting-edge avionics system, the Hürjet is anticipated to be instrumental in the Air Forces Command’s arsenal, harnessing its exceptional performance attributes.

The initiative aims to conceptualize, fabricate, and finalize qualification and certification processes for the next-gen jet trainer by the conclusion of 2025.

The primary objective of the Hürjet project is to substitute the Turkish Air Force’s T-38 trainer aircraft fleet – comprising 70 units – and to satisfy the demands of prospective international clients.

TAI targets to manufacture two of these aircraft monthly post-2025, as previously indicated by the company’s leader.

The Hürjet initiative was officially launched by TAI in 2017.

Designed to evolve into a fifth-generation training aircraft, Hürjet will be outfitted with a sophisticated mission computer in its modern cockpit.

The aircraft will be incorporated with advanced radar and precision attack systems, along with air and ground communication facilities, mitigating threats and dangers.

Hürjet stretches 13.4 meters (43 feet) in length with a wingspan of 11 meters, and will ensure environmental safety during offensive operations.

The sophisticated jet’s peak altitude is designated at 45,000 feet (14 kilometers), combined with its 3,000-kilogram (6,600-pound) payload and a top velocity of Mach 1.2.
