Finland Secures $380 Million Deal for Advanced Anti-Air Missile Technology from U.S.

The US administration revealed on Thursday the authorization of a $380 million transaction involving Stinger portable anti-aircraft missiles and additional equipment to Finland.

“This proposed transaction will enhance Finland’s military and deterrent capabilities,” the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated in an announcement.

“This essential asset will strengthen the land and aerial defense mechanisms on Europe’s northern perimeter, aligning with the key objectives of the US European Command.”

The declaration arrives over nine months following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which prompted both Finland and Sweden to pursue NATO membership, and comes after a $323 million proposed missile deal to Helsinki disclosed on Monday.

The State Department has green-lighted the potential sale, and the DSCA on Thursday submitted the necessary notification to Congress, which still must approve the deal.
