Nexter Empowers Senegal’s Armed Forces with 8 Advanced LG Artillery Guns
The agreement for the provision by Nexter to the Senegalese Armed Forces of 8 105 LG artillery pieces and associated 105mm ammunition became effective on April 20.
The 105 LG is a 105mm towed artillery piece celebrated for its dependability and exceptional lightness (1,650 kg). Its capability to be transported via any kind of vehicle, aircraft, helicopter, and even parachute, ensures it is perfectly mobile for troops maneuvering in extreme conditions and challenging terrains. The Senegalese military selected this artillery because it seamlessly aligns with the demands of contemporary warfare: due to its light weight and unmatched firing rate, it can be deployed in battery in under 30 seconds by a team of 5 gunners, discharging 12 rounds per minute, achieving a maximum range of 17 km with Nexter Arrowtech’s ERG 3 105mm extended-range ammunition. If needed, it can evade detection by trajectory radar systems due to the minimal trajectory angle during intense firing, reaching up to 11 km. Additionally, it is competent in direct fire up to 2 km.
The 105 LG, validated by the French armed forces, is already operational with numerous nations’ militaries: Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, and more recently, Malaysia, which confirms the growing global interest in artillery of this class. Furthermore, this contract with the Senegalese Armed Forces marks the inaugural direct sale between Nexter and the Senegalese military. It follows shortly after Nexter delivered six NARWHAL remotely operated naval systems that equip the three patrol vessels commissioned for the Senegalese Navy. Dominique Guillet, head of the Weapons and Ammunition division at Nexter, expressed his satisfaction with this transaction, stating it “begins a promising collaboration between Nexter and the Senegalese Armed Forces.”
