What’s on Boeing’s Horizon for the Area?

Tommy Dunehew, Vice President, International Sales, Boeing, Defense, Space & Security

Empowering Dreams in Space Science

Meet Alia Al Mansoori, a visionary 15-year-old Emirati student whose aspirations soar towards Mars. Her passion for space science and astrophysics took a significant leap when she clinched victory in the Boeing-sponsored Genes in Space competition. This groundbreaking experiment aims to empower researchers in identifying detrimental changes in astronauts during extended missions like journeys to Mars.

A Milestone for Innovation

The culmination of Alia’s efforts manifested when her DNA experiment was successfully launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the International Space Station (ISS). Astronaut Peggy Whitson operated the miniPCR machine aboard the ISS to analyze protein changes in DNA, signaling potential cell death in a space environment.

Boeing’s Innovative Partnerships

This promising innovation in aerospace drives Boeing’s commitment to forging collaborative partnerships with customers, universities, research institutions, and local aerospace companies around the globe, including the Middle East. These innovative alliances are pivotal during the International Defense Exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

Security and Safety Priorities

Boeing’s mission is clear: equipping customers with the advanced capabilities necessary for self-defense and national security. With a 70-year legacy in the region, Boeing understands that clients seek top-tier capabilities, efficient training solutions, and robust sustainment options to ensure safety and security.

Enhancing Regional Defense Capabilities

Boeing is diligently collaborating with Arab governments and military forces to elevate safety and security in the Middle East. Throughout IDEX, Boeing will feature capabilities aligned with the evolving needs of its customers, including advanced platforms like the T-X, KC-46, and the Compact Laser Weapon System (CLWS).

Groundbreaking Aerial Refueling System

Key to successful missions is the agility in reconfiguring aircraft and efficiently completing refueling operations. Boeing is under contract for 52 KC-46 tanker aircraft with the U.S. Air Force. This versatile multirole tanker is designed to refuel a wide array of military aircraft in compliance with international standards. The KC-46 can swiftly adapt between passenger, cargo, and medevac configurations in under two hours, utilizing advanced technology for operational safety.

Revolutionizing Pilot Training

To enhance pilot proficiency, the T-X aircraft offers a fighter-like training experience, ensuring future generations of pilots are exceptionally prepared. Boeing has secured a contract worth up to $9.2 billion for the T-X training system to replace the T-38 Talon, with plans for 351 jets and simulators, marking a significant step forward in military training advancements.

Advancing Laser Defense Technology

In light of increasing security needs, laser technology is gaining traction in the region. Boeing’s Compact Laser Weapon System (CLWS) serves as a high-energy laser defense mechanism for urban areas and critical infrastructure, effectively neutralizing threats from Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

Commitment to Lifecycle Services

For optimal asset maintenance, Boeing recognizes the Middle East as a burgeoning market for services. Global Services is committed to enhancing operational performance for fleets while minimizing costs, leveraging local expertise and talent to meet customer demands.

Focused Solutions for Enhanced Readiness

Boeing is dedicated to showcasing capabilities that ensure the operational readiness of defense systems, whether they are helicopters, transport planes, or military transports.

A Legacy of Inspiration

Since its establishment, Boeing Global Services has been instrumental in delivering customer-centric solutions, engineering advancements, and data analytics to enhance fleet performance. In the UAE, the focus remains on innovative servicing strategies for CH-47 Chinook and AH-64 Apache helicopters while managing costs effectively.

Boeing proudly upholds a remarkable 102-year legacy devoted to connecting, protecting, exploring, and inspiring across the globe. This commitment will continue as Boeing listens to customers, adapting products and services to create a sustainable future for generations to come, encouraging aspiring scientists and engineers like Alia to embrace their bright futures.
