Boeing Secures $198 Million Boost for Enhanced MQ-25 Tanker Drone Development

The U.S. Navy has awarded Boeing a substantial contract modification worth $198 million. This investment focuses on a floor management station that enhances operational command and management for the MQ-25 carrier-based tanker drone.

According to recent updates from the U.S. Department of Defense, the majority of this work will be conducted in St. Louis, Missouri (99%), with a small fraction taking place in various locations across the continental U.S. (1%). The project is projected to reach completion by August 2024.

It is important to note that the Naval Air Systems Command, based in Patuxent River, Maryland, is overseeing this contracting activity.

The MQ-25 represents a pivotal advancement for the U.S. Navy as it will be the first operational, carrier-based unmanned aircraft. Boeing is contracted to manufacture seven units, which will undergo Navy flight testing soon.

Boeing asserts that this unmanned aircraft system is crucial for extending the combat capabilities of deployed fleets. The MQ-25 will provide essential refueling support, significantly enhancing the operational range of Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Boeing EA-18G Growler, and Lockheed Martin F-35C fighter jets.
