44 Aspiring Innovators Embark on Lockheed Martin’s Cutting-Edge Internship Adventure in Abu Dhabi
Lockheed Martin has recently unveiled the newest iteration of its summer internship initiative at the Center for Innovation and Security Solutions (CISS) in Abu Dhabi, hosting 44 ambitious engineers, scientists, and future trailblazers.
This year’s record-setting cohort builds on the success of the 2024 summer intake of 32 participants, highlighting Lockheed Martin’s ongoing dedication to nurturing talent in the United Arab Emirates and forging the next generation of pioneers in defense, aerospace, and cutting-edge technology.
The 2025 summer group comprises UAE nationals, U.S. citizens, and residents from 16 other nations. Six participants have journeyed from the United States, Singapore, India, and Italy, illustrating the UAE’s rise as a global hub for innovation. All interns were chosen through a stringent, merit-based selection process centered on academic excellence, technical prowess, and leadership potential.
“Lockheed Martin is a worldwide frontrunner in fostering defense innovation, where state-of-the-art technology meets substantial impact,” stated Gen. John “Mick” Nicholson, U.S. Army (Ret.), chief executive of Lockheed Martin Middle East. “In the UAE, we are cultivating future-ready talent through immersive experience and actionable learning. By collaborating, we are not only enhancing national security but also contributing to economic growth, bolstering STEM abilities, and advancing the country’s long-term capabilities.”

This summer, interns will partner with Lockheed Martin engineers on five innovative projects centered on space systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and simulation. Project themes include lunar base development via 3D-printed regolith, autonomous debris detection for aviation safety, modular vertical takeoff and landing uncrewed aerial vehicle design, and immersive cockpit simulator creation. Interns will also participate in systems planning and applied innovation.
“This is beyond just a training scheme. It is a long-term commitment to the UAE’s talent pipeline and sovereign capacities,” expressed Hala Majeed, manager of Lockheed Martin CISS. “These students are transforming knowledge into real-world impact by tackling genuine challenges and acquiring the advanced skills required to lead in vital sectors and technological spheres.”
Since its inception in 2017, the CISS internship initiative has graduated over 250 students. Alumni have pursued careers in aerospace, engineering, and public service, joining organizations such as EDGE Group, Tawazun, Mubadala, the Ministry of Defense, Dubai Police, TII, Khalifa University, AMMROC, GAL, and several startups, tech enterprises, and industry collaborators. Lockheed Martin has also employed 14 Emirati interns within high-priority national security programs, emphasizing its sustained investment in local talent.
The program aligns with national objectives for STEM education, workforce development, and industrial autonomy, while enhancing U.S.-UAE collaboration in innovation, research, and talent cultivation.
