Empowering Futures: 750 Students Thrive in STEM for Sustainability Across MENA
The final cohort of 58 students has triumphantly graduated from the ‘STEM for Sustainability’ program in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This milestone caps off a transformative three-year initiative, spearheaded by Amideast and Boeing, designed to empower youth by applying their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills to address pressing sustainability challenges.
Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President of Boeing Middle East, Türkiye, Africa, and Central Asia, expressed, “The ‘STEM for Sustainability’ program has successfully equipped 750 students across the Middle East and North Africa with valuable insights into the significance of sustainability. As we conclude this three-year journey, we eagerly anticipate these young innovators applying their knowledge and enthusiasm in practical settings.”
Sara El Dallal, Country Director of Amideast UAE, added, “In collaboration with Boeing, Amideast is facilitating practical STEM learning and exposure for UAE students, inspiring them to pursue careers in the aerospace and aviation sectors. We are proud that this initiative has engaged multiple stakeholders—including decision-makers, private and public sectors, schools, and parents—establishing a shared commitment to enhancing sustainability awareness within STEM fields and preparing the next generation for future challenges.”
The program featured a blend of roundtables, STEM fairs, and project-based learning opportunities, allowing students to connect with universities and experts focused on sustainability and innovation.
Ammar Bakri, an 8th-grade student from Al Mawakeb AlGarhoud school in Dubai, remarked, “Every class, meeting, and field trip throughout the ‘STEM for Sustainability’ program felt like soaring toward a brighter future.”
Over the course of three years, the ‘STEM for Sustainability’ initiative in the UAE achieved significant outcomes:
- 154 graduates in the 2023-2025 cohort
- 320 student participants in STEM fairs
- 148 hours of academic engagement
- 34 guest speakers and trainers involved
The ‘STEM for Sustainability’ program aligns with Boeing’s broader commitment to partnering with Amideast in promoting youth engagement and enhancing STEM education, ultimately supporting local sustainability priorities across the Middle East and North Africa. Over the three years, 750 students successfully graduated, and the initiative extended its outreach to 7,000 individuals through interactive STEM talks, roundtables, and various other activities across Egypt, Morocco, and the UAE.
