“France Sets Its Sights on Saab’s GlobalEye: A New Era in Surveillance”
Saab and the French defense procurement agency, Direction générale de l’armement (DGA), have today executed a collaborative declaration of intent concerning the acquisition of Saab’s GlobalEye Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft by France, which comprises ground support equipment, training, and assistance.
The collaborative declaration of intent, signed today at the Paris Air Show, encompasses DGA’s plan to acquire two GlobalEye aircraft from Saab. This declaration also provides an option for DGA to acquire two additional aircraft.
A conclusive notification process to finalize the acquisition will now ensue. The DGA has indicated that a contract is anticipated to be completed in the upcoming months. The involved parties have yet to enter into a formal agreement, and Saab has not yet received an order for GlobalEye from France.
“We appreciate today’s announcement from France regarding the intention to acquire GlobalEye, which will significantly enhance the situational awareness and threat detection capabilities of the French Armed Forces across air, land, and maritime domains. Our solution will allow France to retain complete sovereign oversight of its airborne early warning and control operations,” states Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.
GlobalEye is a sophisticated multi-domain AEW&C solution equipped with a variety of active and passive sensors that ensure long-range detection and identification of entities in air, maritime, and terrestrial environments. By delivering real-time intelligence to air forces, land armies, and navies, GlobalEye enhances situational awareness of the surrounding territory and enables early identification of potential threats.
