GÖKSUR Pioneers a New Era in Türkiye’s Maritime Defense Innovation
ASELSAN triumphantly executed the live-fire assessment of the GÖKSUR Air Defense System, signifying a groundbreaking achievement in Türkiye’s maritime defense capabilities with the inaugural successful interception of a sea-skimming target by a locally manufactured missile.
ASELSAN, Türkiye’s foremost defense enterprise, performed the live-fire evaluation in Sinop, situated in the northern Black Sea region of Türkiye. The assessment showcased the system’s extraordinary performance as the GÖKSUR IIR missile, outfitted with a cutting-edge imaging infrared seeker, successfully engaged a sea-skimming target at a distance surpassing 11 kilometers.
The launch was carried out from ASELSAN’s domestically produced GÖKSUR 100-N VLS (Vertical Launch System), highlighting Türkiye’s advancing prowess in indigenous missile launch technologies. The missile was steered via ASELSAN’s GÜDÜ data link during its midcourse segment and autonomously targeted with accuracy in the terminal stage, accomplishing a direct strike and total obliteration of the target.
Engineered by ASELSAN with the support of TÜBİTAK SAGE, the GÖKSUR product range provides high-efficiency point air defense for surface platforms against threats such as sea-skimming anti-ship and cruise missiles, unmanned aerial systems, and combat aircraft. By modernizing naval missile-defense frameworks and creating a formidable protective barrier, the system boosts both the naval deterrence and self-defense capabilities of Türkiye and its allies.
Ahmet Akyol, ASELSAN President & CEO, highlighted the strategic importance of the accomplishment: “With GÖKSUR, Türkiye has attained a significant milestone in its maritime defense capacity. This achievement not only fortifies our naval defense and deterrence but also emphasizes ASELSAN’s dedication to creating indigenous, transformative systems that secure the operational dominance of our armed forces.”
