“Hanwha Teams Up with HavocAI to Revolutionize the Global Autonomous Maritime Landscape”

Hanwha has revealed that it is investigating strategic partnerships with US-based artificial intelligence and autonomy expert HavocAI to expedite its growth into the global uncrewed maritime systems sector, including the United States.

On October 28, Paul Lwin, CEO of HavocAI, along with his research team, visited Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje Shipyard to assess Hanwha’s shipbuilding and marine systems proficiencies. HavocAI subsequently carried out a live demonstration, where a HavocAI-equipped uncrewed surface vessel (USV) off the coast of Hawaii was remotely controlled from Geoje, Korea.

Hanwha perceives this engagement as a pivotal initial step toward tangible collaboration and a foundation for proactive entry into the rapidly expanding global market for automated maritime and naval systems. Leveraging Hanwha Group’s established presence in naval shipbuilding and defense electronics, Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Systems have bolstered their position in the US market via the acquisition of Philly Shipyard in 2024.

Both companies now intend to pursue deeper synergies that merge Hanwha Ocean’s shipbuilding proficiency with Hanwha Systems’ platform integration and sophisticated naval systems capabilities—including the Combat Management System (CMS), Engineering Control System (ECS), and Condition Based Maintenance System (CBMS)—coupled with HavocAI’s reliable autonomous operation software.

Additionally, they aim to create practical, scalable solutions that enhance both defense and commercial maritime operations, elevate lifecycle efficiency, and minimize maintenance expenses.

“By merging Hanwha Group’s naval-systems knowledge with HavocAI’s autonomy solutions, we can extend the operational lifespan and value of current vessels while enabling quicker deployment of new uncrewed systems,” stated Paul Lwin, Co-founder and CEO of HavocAI.

“Utilizing Hanwha Systems’ maritime integration capabilities and the synergies of Hanwha’s affiliated entities, we will collaborate closely with HavocAI to achieve significant advancements in entering the global arena for autonomous maritime systems,” added Ryu Moon-Ghee, Head of the Naval Business Division at Hanwha Systems.
