HAVELSAN Unveils Cutting-Edge Swarm Drone Innovations in Its Revolutionary “Digital Warriors” Initiative
HAVELSAN showcased its cutting-edge autonomous swarm drone capabilities during a live field activity featuring a swarm of POYRAZ quadcopter drones. This demonstration highlighted impressive kamikaze and multi-target engagement abilities within a realistic operational context, garnering significant interest from high-ranking civilian and military officials.
The exercise effectively validated HAVELSAN’s advanced distributed swarm architecture, which functions independently without a central decision-maker. Despite simulated communication disruptions and network failures throughout the mission, the swarm exhibited continuous operational functionality.
During the demonstration, the swarm autonomously partitioned into specialized sub-swarms targeting various objectives. Each sub-swarm executed coordinated dive maneuvers toward its assigned target. The system’s self-reconfiguring and fault-tolerant design was confirmed as malfunctioning units automatically disengaged, allowing the remaining drones to persist with their mission seamlessly.
The exercise further showcased the potential for integrating swarm operations with other unmanned systems and sensors. This integration allows for autonomous targeting and mission execution based on data gathered from multiple platforms, reinforcing HAVELSAN’s commitment to delivering platform-independent, scalable, and mission-oriented solutions in the realm of autonomous systems.
Data collected from surveillance UAVs and sensors were processed autonomously by the swarm intelligence. Throughout the mission, all maneuvers, formations, and engagements were conducted without operator involvement. Munitions were activated only upon meeting predefined mission protocols and safety conditions, with mission completion data automatically shared among the swarm and relayed to higher-level mission management systems.
Capability Demonstration for Future Operational Concepts
Post-demonstration, HAVELSAN President and CEO Mehmet Akif Nacar stated:
“This live demonstration reflects the maturity of our systems for future combat concepts. We are committed to advancing these systems for operational deployment and counter-swarm capabilities.”
“Our systems allow a single operator to execute fully autonomous missions via a single control station. We have evolved these platforms from tactical aerial vehicles into a vital warfare asset, enabling coordinated airspace management.”
The event also highlighted BULUT, HAVELSAN’s autonomous UAV with vertical take-off and landing capabilities. Featuring the GIMBAL 275 electro-optical system, BULUT effectively provided real-time imagery, showcasing successful multi-platform integration.
