Leonardo Unveils Partnership in Saudi Arabia to Revolutionize Aerospace and Defense Collaboration

During the context of diplomatic discussions between Italy and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that occurred today, the Ministry of Investment (MISA) of Saudi Arabia, the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), and Leonardo disclosed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore, develop, and assess a variety of investment and collaboration possibilities aimed at further enhancing cooperation in the aerospace and defense realm.

This recent deal capitalizes on the MoU endorsed and revealed in early 2024, which examined and deliberated various fields of partnership, including the space sector, airframe MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul), localization of electronic warfare systems and radars, as well as helicopter assembly. It places a spotlight on Combat Air and Cross-Domain Integration domains, industrialization methodologies, human resources enhancement, and national supply chain management in Saudi Arabia, along with Leonardo’s strategic role in the region and the global value chain. In light of the remarkable outcomes achieved from the agreement enacted in 2024, the MoU signed today sets the groundwork for an extensive amplification of industrial cooperation in Combat Air and helicopter sectors.

Over the years, Leonardo has been delivering to the Kingdom various platforms, systems, technologies, and services, encompassing passenger transit, energy support and rescue helicopters, electronic systems and sensors, maritime defense, and cyber capabilities. Additionally, it has made a significant impact in the air defense sector, among others. This latest agreement marks the newest milestone for Leonardo to bolster its presence in the Kingdom, where the company operates a dedicated headquarters.

By partnering with local technological collaborators, research institutions, and end-users, Leonardo will be equipped to stimulate sustained growth and manufacturing in the region. The MoU will play a crucial role in achieving the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which is focused on initiating unprecedented reforms within the public sector, diversifying the economy, empowering citizens and enterprises to unlock their full potential, and fostering innovative avenues for growth.
