KNDS Clinches Contract for Cutting-Edge BOXER Ambulance and Driver Training Initiative
KNDS Deutschland (KNDS) has been assigned with the production of 38 BOXER sgSanKfz (heavily armored ambulance vehicles) along with ten BOXER instructional vehicles for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).
The contract, which KNDS secured as a subcontractor to ARTEC (the original equipment manufacturer of the BOXER system and a collaborative project between KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme), also includes an option for an additional 150 BOXER sgSanKfz and 100 BOXER instructional vehicles. This agreement for the 48 units possesses a value of €352 million. Deliveries of the vehicles are anticipated to initiate in early 2028.
As the crucial link in the medical emergency chain, the BOXER Ambulance establishes the groundwork for pre-hospital treatment. The adaptable ambulance mission module can house a significant number of casualties, based on the type of injuries incurred. Comprehensive medical attention is also included.
The BOXER Ambulance offers the same level of protection for the crew as the BOXER infantry variant, positioning it as one of the most fortified medical vehicles in the market.
The driver training vehicle serves as an educational tool for obtaining a BOXER driver’s certification. It is employed exclusively for training purposes in non-combat scenarios. The driving characteristics and overall mass of the training vehicle remain nearly intact compared to other BOXER variants, ensuring that qualified drivers do not necessitate an additional acclimatization phase when shifting to different models.
