Lockheed Martin Secures Deal for Advanced F-16 Flight Training Software in South Korea
ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 16, 2025 – Lockheed Martin has revealed an enhancement to the Republic of Korea Air Force’s F-16 Block 52 flight simulators to embody the sophisticated features of its upgraded F-16 Viper (F-16V) aircraft. These enhancements reflect improved operational capabilities of the Republic of Korea Air Force, offering high-fidelity simulated settings for pilots to train as they would fly.
“Ultimate precision and authenticity in ground-based flight instruction are essential for pilot safety and operational readiness,” stated Todd Morar, vice president of Air and Commercial Solutions at Lockheed Martin. “As the producer of all F-16 variants, Lockheed Martin utilizes the design and software data from the actual aircraft to provide ground-based training experiences that closely resemble in-flight scenarios, ensuring alignment with the aircraft as technology progresses.”
According to the agreement, Lockheed Martin will supply new equipment and systems integration to upgrade nine F-16 flight simulators at Seosan and Chungju Air Bases to the F-16V configuration, along with ongoing support for contractor logistics services over the span of six years.
Since 2001, pilots from 16 allied nations have trained using Lockheed Martin’s F-16 training systems. Lockheed Martin training facilities offer a simulation-driven training environment that duplicates all systems, sensors, and armaments for a comprehensive training solution. These systems can be interconnected, allowing pilots to practice in diverse scenarios, coordinating technologies to provide advanced training while adhering to budgetary objectives.
The F-16V configuration includes modern avionics, a proven Active Electronically Scanned Array radar, an upgraded cockpit, advanced armaments, and other enhancements that bring them in line with new F-16 Block 70 aircraft.
