“MBDA Secures Major Deal for TESEO MK2/E Anti-Ship Missile Production with Italian Navy”

MBDA finalized production agreement for the TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile for the Italian Navy

MBDA has entered into an agreement with the National Directorate of Naval Armaments for the production of the TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile, which is presently in the development phase for the Italian Navy.

The agreement encompasses the provision of next-generation TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missiles, intended for new vessels of the Italian Navy. This includes the FREMM EVO class frigates, the MPCS/PPA (Multi-Purpose Combat Ship/Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura), and the next-generation DDX destroyers. Additionally, the missile will enhance the previous MK2/A version, currently operational on the FREMM and Horizon class naval units.

The production agreement follows the earlier one established in 2021 for the missile’s development, integration, and qualification. The TESEO MK2/E is a completely new weapon system crafted to fulfill the demands of the Italian Navy. Featuring its Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) seeker technology, the innovative missile delivers exceptional performance. For instance, it can engage both long-range naval and terrestrial targets, facilitates improved mission planning with in-flight missile control through a satellite data link, and incorporates a secondary deep strike ability.

Lorenzo Mariani, MBDA Executive Group Director of Sales & Business Development, and Managing Director of MBDA in Italy, remarked: “I am especially proud of the finalization of this agreement, which affirms the success of a process conducted in complete harmony with our Navy. Furthermore, it is entirely consistent with the roadmaps established during the development contract. Initiating production of the TESEO MK2/E demonstrates not only that the product is mature and wholly meets the Navy’s expectations but also that it seamlessly integrates into MBDA’s portfolio, introducing a new benchmark capability in the anti-ship arena, to be presented to international markets as well.”

TESEO MK2/E addresses emerging threats that require the adoption of new operational needs. This next-generation missile is adaptable and poised to meet the requirements of global clients. It builds upon decades of expertise derived from the TESEO family (known internationally as OTOMAT) and is set to significantly enhance anti-ship capabilities.
