Extension of the MK-48 Mod 7: Advancing the Future of Guidance and Control Systems

The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has granted Lockheed Martin a $245 million contract extension for the MK-48 Guidance and Control (G&C) Mod 7 initiative. This agreement consolidates acquisitions for the U.S. Navy, the Royal Australian Navy, and the Foreign Military Sales program.

Lockheed Martin is anticipated to finalize tasks associated with this contract by September 2027.

The MK-48 Guidance and Control initiative is a vital element of the U.S. Navy’s submarine arsenal, offering sophisticated systems for the MK-48 torpedo. These components are essential to enhance the total inventory of MK-48 Mod 7 heavyweight torpedoes within both the Navy’s and allied forces’ stock. This contract extension will enable Lockheed Martin to persist in supplying these crucial systems to the Navy and allied nations.

Earlier this year, Lockheed Martin achieved a significant milestone by delivering their 100th guidance and control section for the MK-48 torpedo, highlighting their commitment to excellence.

“This contract extension for the MK-48 Guidance and Control program illustrates Lockheed Martin’s capability to successfully revive a previously stagnated technology, providing more guidance and control sections at an accelerated production pace,” stated Tom Warner, Lockheed Martin, RMS Vice President of Undersea Warfare. “Our devoted team is wholeheartedly dedicated to maintaining the production of these vital systems, ensuring that the U.S. Navy and our allied nations have access to the necessary technology to preserve their advantages in an ever-evolving global environment.”

The MK-48 Guidance and Control program exemplifies one of the numerous efforts Lockheed Martin is undertaking to assist the Navy in its objective to achieve maritime dominance. With an emphasis on innovation and a steadfast commitment to excellence, Lockheed Martin strives to furnish the Navy with advanced technological systems, products, and services to remain ahead in strategic readiness.
