“Naval Alliance: METLEN and Naval Group Forge New Pact for Enhanced Submarine and Frigate Collaboration”
Naval Group and METLEN have officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at M Technologies’ facilities in Volos, attended by the French Ambassador to Greece, Laurence Auer. This strategic agreement is aimed at fostering future collaboration in submarine and surface ship projects.
This MoU represents a significant step in enhancing an already established partnership, positioning METLEN as a vital ally within Naval Group’s supply chain. Leveraging METLEN’s expertise in manufacturing key components for the FDI frigate across both Hellenic and French programs, Naval Group identifies METLEN’s know-how in naval platforms as an essential resource. This collaboration is poised to unlock broader industrial opportunities across various naval platforms within the global market.
The agreement underscores the shared commitment of both entities to bolster complex naval systems, thereby contributing to a more resilient and competitive European defence ecosystem. It also signals the strengthening Franco-Greek industrial ties, further enhancing bilateral cooperation.
A Growing Partnership with the Hellenic Industry
Launched in 2022 for the FDI for the Hellenic Navy program, Naval Group’s robust Hellenic Industrial Participation (HIP) already involves over 70 Greek companies. Beyond the FDI initiative, this industrial strategy has yielded substantial economic benefits for the Hellenic industry, facilitating the integration of Greek firms into Naval Group’s supply chain for current and future French and export programs. This initiative is set to bolster the Hellenic Defence Industrial & Technological Base (DITB) within the global naval defence sector.
Committed to the future of defence manufacturing, METLEN is actively investing in the establishment of a six-plant defence industrial hub in Volos (M Technologies Defence Hub), thereby reinforcing its role in supporting major European defense programs. Through strategic investments, M Technologies is dedicated to enhancing Greece’s and Europe’s strategic autonomy in defense, further promoting reindustrialization and critical technological advancements.
