“Naval Group Partners with Six Hellenic Firms to Boost Local Industrial Participation!”
On the 6th and 7th of May 2025 at the DEFEA exhibition in Athens, Naval Group reinforced its pledges in favor of the Greek industry by signing new collaborative agreements with six Hellenic firms under the Hellenic Industrial Participation (HIP) initiative; four framework agreements for the support of the FDI frigates, and two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) concerning the incorporation of drones on surface vessels, in addition to the FDI HN program.
Naval Group, via its Athens-based subsidiary, Naval Group Hellas, established new contracts with six Hellenic companies within the framework of the Hellenic Industrial Participation initiative initiated in March 2022 at the commencement of the FDI HN program.
Since that time, the group has systematically amplified the proportion of local content integrated into the FDI program, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to include the Hellenic industry in the FDI initiative and, more broadly, in its supply chain. Over 120 contracts have been forged with approximately 70 Greek enterprises.
Integration of Drones on Surface Vessels
Naval Group and ALTUS LSA formalized a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate in the
domain of Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles (UAVs) maritime adaptation and integration on naval vessels (FDI frigates, along with Gowind corvettes and additional surface ships). Naval Group has recognized the substantial potential and extensive applicability of UAVs developed and manufactured in Greece by ALTUS, particularly the advanced ATLAS-8. This collaboration will also incorporate R&D projects through the submission of joint proposals for national, international, and European initiatives centered on research, development, and innovation.
Naval Group and the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) also ratified a Memorandum of Understanding to commence dialogues regarding the integration of the Centaur C-UAS system on the FDI platform, followed by potential integration into other surface vessels. HAI specializes in aeronautical solutions and maintenance, and Naval Group has acknowledged its expertise for advancing the FDI program for the Hellenic navy, and for prospective collaborative programs. This cooperation agreement will also encompass R&D endeavors centered on the integration of C-UAS systems, such as anti-drone warfare technologies.
Augmenting the Integration of the Hellenic DITB through Local Support for the Future FDI HN Fleet
As the FDI program advances, with the first unit slated for delivery at the year’s conclusion, Naval Group is increasingly engaging Hellenic companies in the support of frigates.
The four framework agreements established at DEFEA are intended to enhance the future support of the
FDI for the Hellenic Navy in Greece, encompassing the following services:
- FARAD: services for HVAC systems
- DIVING STATUS: underwater inspection and maintenance operations
- MELITA: diesel engine services
- PETROS PETROPOULOS: diesel generator services
Expanding Collaboration with the Hellenic Industry, Beyond the FDI Program
Beyond the FDI initiative, this industrial strategy has generated numerous and enduring economic advantages for the Hellenic industry by integrating Greek firms into Naval Group’s supply chain for current and future French and export initiatives. From this broad perspective, the Hellenic Defence Industrial & Technological Base (DITB) will strengthen its standing in the global naval defense sector.
Currently, 75 Hellenic companies are documented in the Naval Group supply chain platform, enabling potential participation in Naval Group’s forthcoming programs (both French and export initiatives).
Naval Group is also facilitating the development of future Hellenic naval warfare capabilities through R&D projects with Hellenic businesses, universities, and research institutions (NTUA, the University of Patras, Forth Research Centre, the Hellenic Naval Academy), alongside bilateral and European projects focused on structural monitoring and maritime surveillance.
