Saab Triumphs with Landmark Swedish Deal for Giraffe 1X Radar Innovations

Saab has entered into a significant framework agreement with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for its innovative Giraffe 1X compact radar system. The value of this initial order is estimated at SEK 650 million, ensuring immediate delivery to enhance Sweden’s defence capabilities.

This framework agreement encompasses the deployment of Giraffe 1X across various units of the Swedish Armed Forces. The first order features Giraffe 1X in a Compact Radar Module (CRM) configuration, which allows for rapid and straightforward installation on diverse platforms.

“This order is crucial in reinforcing the Swedish Armed Forces’ capacity to detect aerial threats and monitor sea surfaces. The framework also allows Sweden to enhance its military capabilities promptly when necessary. This partnership with FMV and the Swedish Armed Forces marks another important milestone in our commitment to strengthening national defence,” states Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area.

The Giraffe 1X is a compact, high-performance 3D radar that has already been integrated into several operational platforms by various clients. It serves multiple functions, including air defence, countering unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), and safeguarding infrastructure. Additionally, Giraffe 1X is suitable for marine applications across a range of vessels. Its software-based architecture allows for ongoing upgrades to adapt to emerging threats.
