Nevesbu Teams Up with Naval Group to Revitalize Dutch Submarine Fleet
One of the most critical stipulations is that the submarine must operate covertly to evade detection. This places considerable demands on the systems and their integration. Furthermore, the space inside a submarine is extremely limited, requiring careful planning and design where not even a single centimeter is squandered.
Over the past nine decades, Nevesbu has been instrumental in the design of all Dutch submarines, along with various vessels for foreign navies. The company specializes in technically complex components that demand extensive knowledge of both operational procedures and maritime engineering. This work is highly specialized.
A lasting and sustainable collaboration between Naval Group and the Dutch industry
Through this agreement, Nevesbu joins Team Orka, a growing network of Dutch companies across multiple sectors working in unison under the guidance of Naval Group on the development of four forthcoming submarines.
This partnership aligns with the Industrial Cooperation Agreement (ICA) established by Naval Group with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, aimed at bolstering the foundation for sustained Dutch independence in the maintenance and future enhancements of submarines. It also promotes cooperation and knowledge exchange between the Dutch and French maritime industries.
The alliance between Naval Group and the Dutch industry has persisted for three decades and extends well beyond the Orka initiative. Dutch companies are also making substantial contributions to other Naval Group vessels and systems, demonstrating how a solid and enduring relationship with the Dutch industry benefits all parties involved.
“The continuity of expertise and experience enables us to create superior systems for the new submarines that meet the highest standards regarding safety, performance, and reliability,” remarks Bart van Rijssen, Managing Director of Nevesbu. “Nevesbu’s participation in this endeavor emphasizes our strength as a knowledge partner in submarine design. We look forward to collaborating with Naval Group and other partners to develop a new class of advanced submarines for the Netherlands.”
“The well-established expertise and experience of Nevesbu, built over nearly a century and evident in all Dutch submarine designs, holds significant importance for the Orka program,” states Mark Donderwinkel, Country Director Netherlands at Naval Group. “We are extremely pleased to welcome them to Team Orka, further solidifying the industrial partnership between Naval Group and the Netherlands.”
