“Raytheon Secures $536 Million Contract to Equip US Navy with Next-Gen SPY-6 Radar Systems”
Raytheon, a division of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has secured a $536 million agreement from the U.S. Navy for the SPY-6 series of radars. This contract serves as a continuation of the previously granted Integration and Production Support agreement and encompasses the modernization of Flight IIA destroyers with the SPY-6(V)4 variant.
Through this exclusive contract, Raytheon will deliver ongoing assistance for the SPY-6 radar series via training, engineering solutions, ship installations, integration, testing, and software enhancements aimed at augmenting radar functionalities.
“SPY-6 is the most cutting-edge radar within the U.S. naval fleet, equipping vessels with an unparalleled level of protection against emerging threats,” stated Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon. “This agreement underscores the critical importance of this technology in bolstering the U.S. Navy’s technological trajectory for many years ahead.”
SPY-6 is currently installed on two new U.S. Navy vessels, with three more slated for installation and undergoing various testing phases in 2025. Over the next ten years, SPY-6 is anticipated to be operational on more than 60 U.S. Navy ships, fortifying defenses against aerial, surface, and ballistic threats.
Completion of this contract is projected for May 2026.
