Saab Unveils Innovative Coastal Surveillance Radar System

Saab is set to unveil the innovative Coast Control Radar at the forthcoming International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It represents a next-generation, phased-array, non-rotating, software-defined radar crafted within the UAE.

The protection of coastal waters and maritime navigation is growing increasingly crucial for the safety and security of vessels, national integrity, and the broader global economy. Saab’s Coast Control Radar plays a vital role in these aims with its compact, modular architecture that guarantees outstanding performance, including the tracking of smaller crafts in the most challenging coastal scenarios.

Engineered for seamless integration into infrastructures such as buildings, towers, and waterway bridges, the Coast Control Radar offers flexible installation options and provides extensive 360-degree coverage. Its modular format minimizes installation hurdles while also facilitating routine software enhancements for ongoing exceptional detection capabilities and performance.

“As a global leader in radar systems, we are excited to present our Coast Control Radar. Given that this solution has been developed by Saab in the UAE, we opted to launch it in the Middle East, where the safe and dependable navigation of maritime routes is critically important. The Coast Control Radar can afford nations with similar needs an effective means of overseeing these essential economic conduits while boosting the safety and security of maritime operations,” stated Heléne Bittmann, Saab’s managing director in the UAE.

Some notable features of the Coast Control Radar include:

§ Constructed on top-tier military antenna/radar technology suitable for dual-use purposes;

§ Non-rotating phased-array configuration with a compact design allowing for full 360-degree coverage;

§ Enhanced detection capabilities for small and swiftly moving objects at long distances, even in challenging conditions;

§ Economical lifecycle with diminished maintenance needs and high operational availability;

§ Software-oriented for consistent upgrades and a high degree of automation.

Developed at Saab’s research and development center located in Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi, the Coast Control Radar highlights the company’s enduring commitment to fostering the UAE’s defense and security ecosystem.
