Saab Secures Swedish Contract for Advanced Counter-Drone Solutions

Saab Secures Major Order for Advanced Counter-Unmanned Aerial System

Saab has officially received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for a cutting-edge mobile and modular counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS). This system is meticulously designed to enhance protection for the Swedish Armed Forces and safeguard vital civil infrastructure from the increasing threat of drones. The order is valued at approximately SEK 2.6 billion, with deliveries slated for 2027-2028.

In a collaborative effort with the Swedish Armed Forces and FMV, Saab is committed to developing and implementing an innovative C-UAS solution that provides adaptable, cost-effective layered defense against contemporary drone threats. This system is poised to strengthen and complement Sweden’s existing air defense and drone defense capabilities.

“With this order, Sweden will acquire a sophisticated, mobile, and modular counter-unmanned aerial system. This advanced technology significantly bolsters airspace security by effectively detecting, tracking, and mitigating unmanned aerial threats, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems,” stated Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.

Saab’s C-UAS is a versatile mobile platform engineered to detect and neutralize low-flying small- to medium-sized drones. It incorporates field-proven Saab sensors and effectors, alongside selected third-party technologies, creating a comprehensive interoperable solution that effortlessly connects with current defense assets. Built on well-established components, this system is fully operational and prepared for immediate deployment.
