Saab Secures Groundbreaking Radar Deal with Spain’s Artillery Forces

Saab has secured a contract from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), aimed at extending the service life of the Arthur radar systems for the Spanish Armed Forces. The contract value is approximately SEK 540 million (EUR 49.4 million).

This order will leverage advanced technology to guarantee the essential capabilities of Spain’s artillery detection units while maintaining cost efficiency. The service life extension will deliver both enhanced operational mobility and accurate counter-battery operations, which signifies that a greater quantity of targets can be identified at extended distances while minimizing the electronic signature.

“We are delighted to further enhance Spain’s artillery detection prowess, which is crucial for alerting against incoming fire as well as facilitating rapid counter-battery responses. This order marks the first of our radar systems channelled through NATO’s procurement organization, representing a significant milestone for us,” states Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area.

Arthur serves as an artillery locating radar that furnishes a contemporary, digitized system designed to safeguard military personnel and civilians by providing alerts regarding incoming fire. It is also employed in missions like counter-battery operations and fire control.
