“Revolutionary SANCAR Unmanned Surface Vehicle Passes Final Tests, Poised for Deployment to Security Forces”
SANCAR, the Unmanned Autonomous Surface Vehicle (AUSV) crafted by HAVELSAN—one of Türkiye’s premier defense technology firms—has successfully finalized acceptance procedures following its firing evaluations. Now prepared to assist the nation’s security forces, SANCAR will be handed over to its assigned unit.
Acceptance Evaluations Successfully Finalized
Sharing insights on the testing campaign, HAVELSAN General Manager Dr. Mehmet Akif Nacar stated that the acceptance evaluations were successfully wrapped up last week:
“We are developing our SANCAR AUSV in collaboration with Yonca Shipyard. We effectively conducted its firing evaluations. The platform incorporates five of HAVELSAN’s homegrown solutions. Most notably is ADVENT Rota, a command-and-control mission management software that integrates the Turkish Navy’s ADVENT combat management system into autonomous platforms. Additionally, our SUBSTAR Ship Data Distribution System (GVDS), the BLUEVISION autonomous navigation system, and the GNSS–KASK precision satellite positioning solution are all implemented on SANCAR.”
HAVELSAN’s Sturdy Framework
Dr. Nacar highlighted that SANCAR is not only integrated with ADVENT but can also function as an independent platform:
“We possess a robust command, control and mission management capability. Furthermore, we can incorporate these five homegrown products into alternative platforms to enhance their autonomy. In other terms, it doesn’t need to be this platform—we’re prepared today to autonomize any viable platform.”
Mentioning the recent live-fire exercises, Dr. Nacar pointed out that the 12.7 mm remote-operated weapon system successfully targeted and confirmed that, with acceptance finalized, series production will facilitate the delivery of additional SANCAR units to the security forces.
Extensive Potential for Military and Civil Roles
Dr. Nacar also stressed the civil applicability of SANCAR, in addition to its military utilization, noting that logistics and other non-combat functions can be supported by such vessels.
Technical Specifications of SANCAR
SANCAR distinguishes itself with its cutting-edge technical characteristics. Measuring 12.7 meters in length and 3.3 meters in width with a displacement of 9 tons, the platform employs twin diesel engines with twin waterjets to reach speeds exceeding 40 knots. It provides a range of 400 nautical miles at 10 knots and is capable of functioning in Sea State 4.
Onboard systems feature radar, sonar, electro-optical cameras, Automatic Identification System (AIS), 360-degree surveillance cameras, depth sounder, GPS compass, and GNSS-assisted navigation. COLREG-compliant autonomous navigation ensures safe maneuverability in intricate maritime contexts.
SANCAR accommodates modular payloads, including a 12.7 mm Remote-Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS), tactical missile systems, and mine countermeasure (MCM) payloads. A mobile ground control station offers quick deployment and portability, while redundant RF, satellite, and LTE communications guarantee uninterrupted, resilient command-and-control—positioning SANCAR as a valuable asset within the inventory.
Next-Generation Features and NATO Compliance
With its engagement capabilities, mine detection expertise, and autonomous mission functionalities, SANCAR is the first and only AUSV fully integrated with HAVELSAN’s ADVENT Combat Management System. Highlighted for its role in mine countermeasure missions, SANCAR can launch from next-generation mine countermeasure vessels and carry out independent operations—providing a crucial operational edge.
Ongoing software enhancements aligned with NATO Interoperability Standards will further broaden the platform’s international user base.
Upcoming Innovations from HAVELSAN
As the inaugural member of HAVELSAN’s unmanned surface vehicle lineup, SANCAR will soon be joined by new offerings catering to both military and civil sectors, expanding the company’s portfolio of autonomous maritime solutions.
