Teledyne FLIR Defense Secures $32 Million Deal to Equip Bulgarian Strykers with Advanced Recon Surveillance Systems
Teledyne FLIR Defense, a division of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), has secured a significant contract from the U.S. Army valued at up to $32 million. This contract aims to deliver and integrate state-of-the-art electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) systems for the Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) Recon Kit.
This contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Contracting Command, located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, as part of a Foreign Military Sales initiative to bolster Bulgaria’s military modernization. Bulgaria aims to acquire around 200 U.S.-made Stryker armored vehicles, replacing outdated Soviet-era tactical fleets while enhancing collaboration with NATO forces.
Teledyne FLIR Defense is set to supply long-range thermal imaging sights and radars specifically designed for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, improving operational capabilities in all weather conditions, both day and night. Key products for this enhancement include the TacFLIR® 280 HDEP EO/IR imaging system, Ranger® R20SS long-range radar, and Cameleon™ control software, pivotal for detecting and targeting threats.
The subsequent phases of the Stryker vehicle modernization program will incorporate FLIR Defense unmanned aircraft and launch systems, complemented by Teledyne’s nuclear, biological, and chemical detection sensors. This integration will enable standoff identification of potential threats for the Bulgarian Land Forces.
“This project significantly aids a critical NATO ally in enhancing its military capabilities, fostering interoperability within NATO, and heightening situational awareness,” commented Dr. JihFen Lei, president of Teledyne FLIR Defense and senior vice president at Teledyne Technologies. “We take pride in supporting this U.S. Army-led initiative and will collaborate with our partners and end users in Bulgaria to provide impactful technology solutions for the battlefield.”
The contract spans a performance period of three years. The Stryker ICV Recon Kits will be manufactured across various Teledyne FLIR facilities in both the United States and Canada, with integration occurring on-site in Bulgaria post-delivery.
