Thales Empowers Qatar Emiri Air Force with Advanced GM400α and GM200MM/A Radar Systems for Enhanced Air Defense
- Qatar is enhancing its airspace protection capabilities by ordering GM200MM/A (Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission All-in-one) and GM400α (Ground Master Alpha) radars from Thales.
- A comprehensive national supervision and maintenance system will accompany the radars, alongside a training program for operators and technicians.
- The highly reliable Thales GM400α and GM200MM/A radars are pivotal for aerial surveillance and territorial authority across the globe.
- For over 40 years, Thales has been a reliable partner of the State of Qatar, reinforcing the local economy and national sovereignty through digital innovations aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
At the DIMDEX Exhibition in Doha, the Qatar Emiri Air Force formalized an order for both the Ground Master 200 MM/A and Ground Master 400 Alpha radars, aimed at bolstering the nation’s airspace sovereignty.
In light of evolving aerial threats, particularly recent drone intrusions, it’s crucial for armed forces to possess precise and effective detection capabilities. Countries like Qatar are increasingly investing in high-performance radar systems to address these pressing challenges.
Easily deployable, Thales radars are essential for long-range and medium-range detection, capable of identifying various threats in any environment. The GM200 MM/A stands out as an advanced multi-mission radar, excelling in detecting small targets from distances of up to 350 km. Meanwhile, the GM400α offers unparalleled situational awareness and tracking capabilities, adept at managing low, slow, and highly maneuverable threats, even within crowded settings.
Equipped with a Secure Digital Integration Platform (SDIP), both the GM200 MM/A and GM400α radars deliver an exceptional aerial overview with unmatched performance against challenging targets. This system allows for maintaining a high-quality air picture with immediate broadcasting through secure network capabilities. The SDIP solution facilitates the integration of all existing non-US sensors into a unified Air Picture.
Additionally, the Qatar Emiri Air Force will benefit from the expertise of a local Thales team responsible for routine maintenance and operator training until 2036. With over 200 Ground Master family radars sold globally, Thales reaffirms the solution’s reputation for performance and reliability.
“We are proud to contribute to Qatar’s airspace sovereignty with our integrated air surveillance system built on our advanced tactical radars. The GM200 MM/A and GM400α are set to empower the Qatar Emiri Air Force in safeguarding their airspace against aerial threats, including drones. This contract exemplifies the strong partnership between Thales and Qatar,” stated Raphael Desi, Vice-President of Integrated Airspace Protection Systems at Thales.
