HÜRJET: Türkiye’s Trailblazing Indigenous Jet Trainer Set to Soar Over Spain

Spain’s Integrated Advanced Training System has chosen the HÜRJET Jet Trainer to fulfill the training aircraft needs of the Spanish Air and Space Force, culminating in a final procurement agreement.

Guided by the Presidency of Defence Industries of the Republic of Türkiye, a significant deal has been finalized for the export of the HÜRJET Jet Trainer, developed using national resources by Turkish Aerospace. This agreement marks a milestone in HÜRJET’s journey to Spain, proudly representing Türkiye in the skies.

Previous discussions between Turkish Aerospace and Airbus about Spain’s jet training needs led to a formal partnership. During the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) in July, this collaboration was officially established. After thorough technical, operational, and industrial evaluations, both companies reached a mutual agreement, paving the way for the procurement contract’s signing.

As part of the €2.6 billion contract, 30 HÜRJET Jet Trainers are set to be exported. The manufacturing will take place at Turkish Aerospace facilities, with deliveries scheduled to commence in the last quarter of 2028 and continue through 2036.

This agreement highlights HÜRJET’s first export success, showcasing Türkiye’s indigenous aviation technologies in the European market. Exporting to Spain, a member of NATO and the European Union, means HÜRJET will now fly in European skies. This deal enhances Türkiye’s defence and aerospace industry’s international competitiveness and signifies a new chapter of defence cooperation between Türkiye and Spain.

In response to this development, Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of Defence Industries, remarked that this achievement illustrates Türkiye’s growing reputation as a trusted and preferred exporter in the global defence market.

In a recent statement on social media regarding the HÜRJET export, Prof. Dr. Görgün highlighted Türkiye’s evolution from a mere supplier to a nation capable of influencing global defence markets. He noted:

“Türkiye’s first indigenous jet trainer, HÜRJET, has gained official selection by the Spanish Air and Space Force under a 30-aircraft export deal, marking a significant milestone for our defence sector.
This development indicates that Türkiye has established itself as a trusted and leading exporter in defence.
With a projected value of €2.6 billion, initial deliveries are set for 2028.
The signed agreement encompasses a comprehensive, high-value defence export package, including HÜRJET aircraft, an integrated advanced pilot training architecture, ground-based simulation systems, maintenance infrastructure, and long-term operational support.”

The introduction of a jet training aircraft, designed and produced using national capabilities, into a European and NATO member’s inventory clearly reflects Türkiye’s advancements in design, production, systems integration, certification, and sustainability.

With HÜRJET, Türkiye reaffirms its commitment as a nation that develops, manufactures, and exports high-tech aerial platforms, further enhancing its global defence export footprint.

Prof. Dr. Görgün expressed gratitude to all engineers, technicians, and stakeholders from the Turkish Aerospace team who contributed to this landmark export success.

Under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s leadership, Türkiye continues to leverage national technology, bolster its defence export capabilities, and elevate its presence on the global stage.
