Hensoldt Unveils Upgraded Radar Training Solutions for RAAF
HENSOLDT Australia has successfully provided an enhancement to the RAAF’s Radar Operational Maintenance Trainer (OMT). This OMT training solution is designed for the RAAF to empower technicians to cultivate the expertise necessary for operating and sustaining radar systems in a controlled, ‘real-world’ setting. Developed in Australia, the Antenna Control Unit (ACU) Stimulator replicates a functioning antenna and pedestal system. The RAAF technician, currently undergoing radar training, can now interact as if it were an actual antenna, allowing them to master the complete system and react to issues and malfunctions swiftly and realistically.
This improvement aligns the OMT software with that utilized in the operational radars, rather than it being a modified and exclusive training software version. This minimizes the lifecycle costs for the system and enables the OMT to serve as an effective rollout platform for forthcoming software updates, significantly reducing the operational system downtime throughout its 20-year life span.
HENSOLDT Australia has been delivering operational and maintenance assistance, installation, testing, and evaluation of radars across various RAAF bases and maritime platforms. This provided the development team with an insightful comprehension of the end-user environment. HENSOLDT Australia has broadened its engineering, technical, repair, and manufacturing capabilities, enabling extensive efforts to be made in exploring the system environment, assessing risk factors, and developing requirements to shape design.
The ACU Stimulator was conceived and produced in the HENSOLDT Australia workshop. Acceptance testing has been finalized, and it is now operational within the OMT. Following this achievement, the second and spare system will be manufactured and delivered in 2021, with the product being available for export to support not only HENSOLDT radars but also additional ATC radars.
