Naval Group Unveils A$900M Opportunities for Australian Enterprises
The Australian sector will gain from hundreds of millions of dollars in contract packages for the Government’s Future Submarine Initiative, bolstering numerous Australian jobs and generating fresh possibilities for local enterprises.
The Government and Naval Group have today initiated a campaign soliciting Expressions of Interest from the Australian industry to become Australian Capability Partners for the production of 23 significant items of equipment.
This endeavor has been evaluated by Naval Group as holding a value of up to $900 million for the 12-vessel fleet.
Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC stated that the Government’s Future Submarine Initiative will provide Australia with a regionally-dominant, sovereign submarine capability.
“This pledge by Naval Group illustrates the considerable advantages to the Australian sector that will arise from the Attack Class Submarine Initiative,” Minister Reynolds noted.
“As we near the preliminary design phase in January 2021, we are in a crucial stage of the initiative where we are in the process of crafting and selecting over one million submarine components that must function cohesively together.
“The expertise and understanding required to produce this equipment and others will gradually be handed over to Australian industry as contract packages are made available as part of the Government’s sovereignty ambitions.
“The Government remains committed to collaborating with Naval Group to optimize prospects for Australians, particularly by training Australian personnel in France, to cultivate the expertise needed for training the domestic workforce as promptly as possible.”
Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price remarked that producing such vital components domestically supports Australian employment and fosters confidence in the local defence sector.
“I have consistently asserted that our Government will support Aussie workers,” Minister Price declared.
“The resolution to fabricate these crucial components in Australia signifies our determination to create new opportunities and jobs for local businesses.
“This is a major advancement towards enhancing Australian capability within the Government’s Future Submarine Initiative.”
Minister Reynolds and Senator for South Australia and Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham also inaugurated Naval Group Australia’s new facility at Port Adelaide today.
This inauguration represents a pivotal achievement in the growth of Naval Group Australia’s workforce, as design work on the Attack Class submarines continues to advance.
The newly established Naval Group Australia office at Port Adelaide will accommodate its workforce of 250, with the capability to host up to 350 employees.
“The new dedicated office, situated near the site where the Attack Class fleet will be constructed at the Osborne North Submarine Construction Yard, reaffirms Naval Group’s commitment to delivering the regionally-superior Attack Class submarines,” Minister Reynolds articulated.
“South Australia is leading the Morrison Government’s strategy to ensure Australia possesses the maritime capabilities required to protect its interests in the years to come, supported by a premier, sustainable naval shipbuilding sector.”
Minister Birmingham stated that Naval Group Australia’s commitment is a testament to South Australia’s strength as a nucleus for naval submarine and shipbuilding.
“This commitment reinforces South Australia as the epicenter of our nation’s rapidly expanding defence sector, generating thousands of high-tech jobs locally,” Minister Birmingham emphasized.
“Naval Group Australia’s announcement builds upon the Government’s strategy to maximize the development of our defence industry through essential partnerships, promoting business capabilities for advanced technology development and job creation.”
