On May 15, 2020, ARQUUS unveiled a report discussing the implementation of HUMS (Health and Usage Monitoring Systems) in an army fleet presented to a group of Defense officials. This report culminates a six-month tactical assessment performed on a fleet of 20 VAB (Véhicule de l’Avant Blindé) armored vehicles at the Camp de Mourmelon, located near Châlons-en-Champagne. The initial findings of this experiment emphasize the significance of data gathering solutions and set the foundation for predictive maintenance systems for terrestrial equipment. The EVTA Vérité consequently opens up new avenues for the evolution of Land MOC (Maintenance in Operational Condition).

In December 2018, the French Army assigned Arquus with a trial focused on predictive maintenance tools aimed at land equipment: the Evaluation Tactique Vérité (Tactical Evaluation Vérité, where Vérité stands for VEhicules Roulants Instrumentés et Tactiquement Employés, instrumented and tactically employed rolling vehicles). The trial was initiated with the assistance of the SIMMT (Structure Intégrée du Maintien en Condition Opérationnelle des Matériels Terrestres, which is responsible for the maintenance of all French land equipment).

The objective of EVTA Vérité was to evaluate the appropriateness of predictive maintenance-related technologies and their applicability for managing and utilizing military fleets. It also aimed to measure the influence of these technologies on maintenance organization while outlining forthcoming development stages.

During this tactical evaluation, 20 VABs from the 8e Régiment du Matériel (8e RMAT) were outfitted with various HUMS sensors and delivered on June 5, 2019, at CENTIAL (Centre d’Entraînement Interarmes et du soutien Logistique, Combined Training and Logistics Support Center) in Mourmelon. The instrumentation and data collection protocols had been pre-validated at the Satory testing tracks in May 2019.

Throughout the data gathering phase at CENTIAL, spanning June to December 2019, the VABs undertook a diverse range of missions, executed under contrasting conditions and across various terrains. This experiment, conducted in collaboration with LGM, traversed several thousand kilometers in numerous configurations, therefore facilitating the construction and analysis of a comprehensive database on the spectrum of monitored functions.

SIMMT’s favorable feedback regarding the utilization of this initial data collection underscores the value of the degradation models produced as a result of this study. The analysis of data collected by the sensors allows for the creation of exhaustive models to predict maintenance needs, tailored to the environmental and mission specifications. With predictive maintenance, technical malfunctions can be anticipated several days in advance, enhancing the planning and operations of maintenance and logistics personnel within the armed forces. The widespread adoption of HUMS-based protocols within land forces is expected to elevate equipment availability. These innovative strategies should also equip field commanders with all essential tools needed to accurately assess equipment capabilities and maintenance requirements.

The application of HUMS represents one of the pioneering solutions currently being developed by ARQUUS to enhance the maintenance of military equipment in operational readiness. These solutions encompass the adoption of 3D printing along with both virtual and augmented reality technologies.

ARQUUS possesses significant expertise in support and maintenance, accumulated over years of providing sustained assistance to Army vehicles. Currently, ARQUUS supports over 20,000 vehicles for the French Army. To ensure that support is as proximate as possible to the forces, ARQUUS leverages an international logistics network along with thousands of partnership and service points, both domestically and internationally. To streamline all support activities, ARQUUS has invested in its Garchizy logistics center, which serves as the sole hub for spare parts and components for all active and future models within the ARQUUS portfolio, both in France and globally. These arrangements guarantee the swiftest access to spare parts.
