AM General Secures 5-Year Contract to Reinvent the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Family

The U.S. Army Contracting Command Detroit Arsenal has today granted a prominent global military mobility solutions provider, AM General, a 5-year (plus 5-year option) agreement to produce an estimated 20,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) along with roughly 10,000 trailers, including the deployment of technological improvements for supply to the US Armed Forces.

“We are grateful and privileged to obtain this agreement and continue our robust partnership with the US Armed Forces. The dedication we invested in our successful proposal is a reflection of our devotion to support those who protect us,” stated Jim Cannon, AM General President and CEO. “With the Warfighters in focus, we aimed not only to showcase our premier manufacturing skills but also to embed innovative solutions into the JLTV to ensure they receive the optimal product for their objectives.”

AM General is strongly positioned to advance next-generation JLTVs to fulfill operational demands across a spectrum of military assignments. The firm’s fundamental strength in Light Tactical Vehicle (LTV) design and production, alongside their R.I.D.E (Responsive, Integrity, Dynamic, Excellence) ethos, guarantees that the end user is efficiently equipped and supported in combat. Moreover, AM General merges unparalleled LTV program expertise with established transformative commercial manufacturing strategies, including their Smart Factory, Automated Guided Vehicle System (AGV), Radio Frequency Identification/Global Positioning System (RFID/GPS) traceability, and stringent International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949 accredited Quality Management System (QMS) protocols to create and deliver JLTVs fitted with technical advancements that exceed standards. Some of the JLTV technological enhancements encompass enhanced corrosion defense and superior fuel efficiency, along with ongoing advancements for an updated Next Generation Vehicle Architecture.

The JLTV will be assembled in a specialized military manufacturing facility at their sprawling 96-acre Mishawaka Manufacturing Campus (MMC) in Indiana. MMC features an onsite testing track where JLTVs will be evaluated in a dynamic operational environment. These specialized facilities support the company’s preparedness to implement a seamless transition for JLTV production, quality assessment, and delivery. Deliveries are anticipated to commence 17 months post-contract award.
