AM General Unveils the Future: HUMVEE Saber Concept Set for Global Premiere at IDEX 2023

Renowned global military mobility solutions provider AM General will display cutting-edge products and technologies that establish the benchmark to support the warfighter, both today and into the future, at the International Defense Exhibition (IDEX) from February 20-24, 2023, Booth #B08, Hall 2, U.S. Pavilion, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Following the award of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) follow-on contract, the company will introduce the HUMVEE Saber Blade Edition concept outside of the United States – a partnership with prominent defense firms to highlight the platform’s adaptability to seamlessly integrate various advanced weapon systems.

“We are incredibly thrilled to be participating at IDEX, which serves as the ideal venue to unveil new and groundbreaking products on a global stage in service of our most vital client – the Warfighter,” stated John Chadbourne, AM General EVP – Chief Business Development Officer. “With the HUMVEE Saber Blade Edition, we continue to expand the limits of lethality and protection in combat, and we take pride in the collaborative efforts established with AeroVironment and Hornet to bring this concept to life.”

The company’s primary expertise in Light Tactical Vehicle (LTV) development and production with HUMVEE vehicles, HUMVEE Saber, and now JLTV, guarantees that the end user is exceptionally equipped and supported on the battlefield. The HUMVEE Saber Blade Edition concept demonstrates how AM General persists in innovating to adapt and triumph on the contemporary battlefield with offensive and defensive capabilities – all within a vehicle that is robust, responsive, and dependable. The HUMVEE Saber Blade edition incorporates AeroVironment’s Switchblade® loitering munitions and a Hornet Air Guard Remote Controlled Weapon System (RCWS) with Counter-UAS capabilities by Hornet. The loitering munitions featured on the HUMVEE Saber Blade Edition include the Switchblade 300 and Switchblade 600, which deliver quickly deployable, loitering precision strike missiles against non-line-of-sight targets. The Hornet Air Guard provides anti-drone detection & neutralization abilities to the Hornet RCWS, allowing for surveillance, fire support, and self-defense thanks to air-burst ammunition and an added independent drone detection ring.

“The ongoing conflicts have highlighted the escalating significance of drones, whether for targeting vehicles or conducting reconnaissance missions. The ability to detect and neutralize such threats while preserving the vehicle’s primary protective qualities represents the ultimate capability for a Remote-Controlled Weapon Station. That’s Hornet Air Guard’s objective,” explains Jean Boy, Managing Director of Hornet.

Through relentless enhancement, the HUMVEE Saber integrates breakthrough technology in a reimagined vehicle that provides heightened levels of protection in a truly agile light tactical vehicle. The proprietary cabin design is redefining survivability, affording 360-degree kinetic energy threat protection along with blast threat safeguards. Built on the HUMVEE vehicle framework, the HUMVEE Saber ensures maximum compatibility, simplified maintenance, and efficient fleet sustainment.
