AM General Boosts Lebanon’s Defense with Delivery of 300 M1152 Humvees

The U.S. Department of State has given the green light for the purchase of 300 M1152 High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV), commonly known as Humvees, for a total of $55.5 million.

The Lebanese Government expressed a need to acquire 300 HMMWVs. The procurement process will be executed in two stages, with 150 vehicles being acquired in each phase. This deal includes the provision of spare parts, repair components, manuals, and technical documentation, along with personnel training and training tools, as well as technical and logistical support services, in addition to other essential elements of logistical and program assistance.

This proposed transaction aims to bolster the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States by enhancing the security infrastructure of a partner nation that plays a vital role in promoting political stability and economic advancement in the Middle East. These state-of-the-art transport vehicles will allow Lebanon to strengthen its capacity to address present and future challenges by improving its efficiency in troop and supply movement throughout the nation, thus combating extremist organizations and safeguarding its borders, as stated by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in a recent announcement.

Currently, Lebanon is already utilizing over 1,000 Humvees of various models.

The main contractor for this project will be American General, based in South Bend, Indiana.
