Saab Secures Contract for Pioneering Swedish Fighter Jet Concept Research

Saab has secured a contract from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) concerning preliminary studies for upcoming fighter systems. The duration of the contract spans 2024-2025.

This encompasses preliminary studies of both piloted and unpiloted solutions within a system-of-systems framework, along with technology advancement and demonstrations. Saab will engage in close collaboration with FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Research Agency, GKN Aerospace, and various industry collaborators.

“Saab is in a robust position, and having recently produced the Gripen E and GlobalEye, we possess the cutting-edge technology and engineering expertise required to advance the future fighter concept. This signifies our ongoing commitment to providing innovative solutions that meet the evolving operational demands of the Swedish Armed Forces and additional clients,” mentions Lars Tossman, head of Saab’s Aeronautics division.

Saab will further cultivate partnerships with stakeholders focused on emerging and groundbreaking technologies, which will play a critical role in next-generation combat aircraft systems. Saab will also investigate innovation platforms like the Swedish Government’s Defense Innovation Initiative and NATO’s Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic.

The conceptual studies included in this agreement will take place concurrently with Saab enhancing Gripen C/D and implementing Gripen E in Sweden and Brazil.
