BAE Systems Unveils Cutting-Edge CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle for Brazilian Army Showcase
BAE Systems has showcased the functionalities of its CV90 vehicle platform to the Brazilian Army at a private gathering at the Centro de Avaliações do Exército (CAEx). Crafted and manufactured by the Company’s Hägglunds division in Sweden, the CV90 family of vehicles delivers exceptional tactical and strategic mobility, aerial defense, anti-tank proficiency, along with superior survivability and protection in diverse terrains or combat environments. It stands as the foremost infantry fighting vehicle globally, continually advancing to maintain its top-tier status, fueled by feedback from armed forces utilizing the platform. In the summer of 2023, BAE Systems presented the CV90 to the Brazilian military. Under its VBC Fuz program, the Brazilian Army is considering the acquisition of 78 tracked infantry fighting vehicles.
Marco Caffe, Country Director for Brazil at BAE Systems, expressed: “It has been a privilege to demonstrate the reliable capabilities of the CV90 to the Brazilian Army. We appreciate the chance to highlight the vehicle’s innovative technology and adaptability, assisting the Army in evaluating equipment utilized by other nations as part of its routine reviews of available technologies. Protection, collaboration, and prosperity have been the core of the BAE Systems partnership with Brazil, which has lasted over a century. We have supplied the Army with M113 combat vehicles, the Navy with Amazonas class vessels, and various types of aircraft to the Air Force. The company collaborates with prominent Brazilian firms, such as Embraer and EMGEPRON, to serve the Brazilian military as well as facilitate exports abroad. We anticipate continuing our efforts to bolster national security and foster economic prosperity for Brazil.”

The CV90 (Combat Vehicle 90, Stridsfordon 90) is a series of Swedish tracked armored combat vehicles developed by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), Hägglunds, and Bofors from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, entering operational service in Sweden during the mid-1990s. The design of the CV90 platform has consistently progressed from the Mk 0 to the contemporary Mk IV, adapting to technological advancements and shifting battlefield demands. The Swedish variant of the primary infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) is fitted with a turret from Bofors armed with a 40 mm Bofors autocannon. Export models incorporate Hägglunds E-series turrets, equipped with either a 30 mm Mk44 or a 35 mm Bushmaster autocannon. Over 1,300 CV90 units are currently operational across eight nations. Recently, both Slovakia (152) and the Czech Republic (246) have placed orders for an aggregate of 398 additional vehicles.
The CV90 Mk IV is outfitted with a new Scania engine that produces up to 1,000 horsepower (750 kW) and the latest upgraded X300 heavy-duty transmission. Its maximum weight has been increased from 35 to 37 tonnes, allowing for an additional two tonnes of payload without compromising vehicle maneuverability. It features a cutting-edge augmented reality system known as iFighting. The iFighting concept integrates data from various systems within the vehicle to filter and prioritize crucial information, facilitating quicker decision-making by the crew and enhancing battlefield efficacy. The Mk IV generation will also be the first Western IFV to incorporate a qualified Active Protection System. It will benefit from fourth-generation electronic architecture that supports the adoption and growth of future technologies. Diverse customer specifications have led to various CV90 variants, reflecting significant differences in survivability and electronic architecture. Enhanced protection has resulted in increased curb weight; the vehicle’s combat weight has escalated from 23 to 35 tonnes.
