BAE Systems Secures $169 Million Deal with U.S. Marines for Enhanced Amphibious Combat Vehicle Production
The U.S. Marine Corps has granted BAE Systems a modification to their contract for the second batch of full-rate production of Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACVs). This contract award amounts to $169 million for a total of 33 units.
The ACV is well-established and extremely versatile, designed to perform swift ship-to-objective operations while boosting combat effectiveness for the Fleet Marine Forces. In collaboration with IVECO Defence Vehicles, the ACV exemplifies the ideal integration of maritime and terrestrial mobility, durability, and future enhancement capabilities.
“BAE Systems is committed to assisting the Marines in fulfilling their expeditionary goals and Force Design 2030 objectives,” stated John Swift, director of amphibious programs at BAE Systems, referencing the Marine Corps’ strategic vision for combat readiness in a swiftly-changing future landscape. “This follow-on contract underscores our dedication to delivering this essential capability to the warfighter and advancing the Marine Corps’ mission priorities.”
BAE Systems is currently contracted to provide two variations of the ACV Family of Vehicles to the Marine Corps: the ACV personnel variant (ACV-P) and the ACV command variant (ACV-C). Additionally, the company has secured a design and development contract for a 30mm cannon variant (ACV-30), with a recovery vehicle (ACV-R) also in the pipeline. Furthermore, BAE Systems has received task directives from the U.S. Marine Corps to conduct a study on integrating Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle Command, Control, Communication, and Computers/Unmanned Aerial Systems mission payload into an Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) variant.
BAE Systems was granted the initial full-rate ACV production Lot 1 contract option in December 2020, covering the first 36 vehicles, and the second option in February 2021 for an additional 36 units. Earlier this fall, the ACV team successfully delivered the 100th Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) ACV to the Marine Corps and is on track to finalize LRIP deliveries by January 2022, as ACV deployment to the Fleet Marine Forces progresses as planned, on schedule, and within budget.
