Gallatin (TN), April 15, 2016 – Beretta Holding has officially opened its new manufacturing facility in the United States, a nation that constitutes the largest market for the group in terms of size (over 50% of total sales) and strategic value.
This brand-new establishment will encompass the complete R&D and production division of Beretta USA, which, while retaining its historical headquarters in Maryland, will now operate from a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that will facilitate a substantial enhancement in production capabilities. This modern facility is designed based on the highest standards of “lean manufacturing” and incorporates advanced industrial and information technologies, which will significantly boost the productivity of the manufacturing operations.
The quest for the ideal location for the new facility has been a lengthy and demanding endeavor, involving both the management of Beretta USA and the Gussalli Beretta family personally assessing numerous available options across the United States.
Ultimately, the decision fell on the State of Tennessee and the city of Gallatin, further aided by the solid and invaluable support from various administrative and political bodies – particularly the essential assistance of Governor Bill Haslam – who facilitated the substantial new investment made by the group, amounting to several tens of millions of Euros, which is anticipated to contribute positively to local community development.
The facility’s completion occurred in 2015, and production across several product families of the renowned Beretta brand commenced just a few weeks ago.
We anticipate that at full operational capacity, which is expected to be achieved within the next two to three years, the site will employ over 300 staff members involved in the manufacture of firearms for sporting, hunting, and personal defense, thereby complementing the range of items produced in Italy.
The current structure spans an area of 156,000 square feet (or 15,000 square meters), but the acquired land, totaling 100 acres (or 400,000 square meters), will allow for future expansions.
The investment in the new facility in Tennessee is part of the global strategic development plan of the group, which invests approximately 40 million euros annually (5% of sales) in its manufacturing facilities and around 20 million euros (3% of sales) in Research and Development.
Since the 1970s, the Beretta group has established a strong presence in the US, achieving over 50% of its total sales here, while planning continued growth for all its subsidiaries in the nation: Beretta USA, Benelli USA, Stoeger Industries, Burris, Steiner eOptics, with the addition of STS and Diffraction, two companies acquired in early 2016 to enhance the Group’s portfolio in the electro-optics domain.
This new facility will join the roster of Beretta Holding’s other establishments across the US, which are distributed in Maryland, Virginia, Colorado, California, Ohio, and Vermont, in addition to the cities of New York, Dallas, and Memphis, where the flagship “Beretta Galleries” outlets are located.
Pietro Gussalli Beretta, President and CEO of Beretta Holding remarked: “With the establishment of the new facility in Tennessee, our group marks another significant milestone for growth and competitive enhancement in the world’s most advanced and sophisticated market. We will persist in our development in this country, to which we are deeply connected and for which we have consistently appreciated the proactive stance of the government in promoting the localization of the most advanced tech firms through economic incentives and swift administrative authorizations. Our growth strategy anticipates future investments in the US across our traditional sectors as well as in the highly specialized electro-optics field.”
