Rheinmetall Secures Major Contract for Mortar Upgrades and Ammunition Supply from Bundeswehr

The German Bundeswehr has engaged with Rheinmetall to deliver 120mm mortar munitions and enhance its mortar systems. Finalized in 2021, this agreement signifies a total gross amount of approximately €27 million.

During the modernization process, scheduled for completion by 2023, Rheinmetall is refining the Bundeswehr’s 120mm mortars, permitting them to launch next-generation (NG) mortar projectiles. This upgrade includes the installation of obturation rings to the mortar tubes. As part of this initiative, Rheinmetall has already provided the Bundeswehr with DM75 NG multispectral mortar projectiles and DM56 NG infrared illumination mortar rounds in 2021.

Rheinmetall boasts considerable proficiency in the realm of indirect fire and presents a comprehensive assortment of 120mm, 81mm, and 60mm ammunition families. The Group also manufactures mortar fire control systems and artillery such as the 120mm Ragnarök mortar weapon system and the cutting-edge RSG60 60mm mortar, launched recently in 2019.

The recent order from the Bundeswehr highlights Rheinmetall’s pivotal position as a predominant provider of indirect fire solutions.
