Patria Triumphs with the Revitalization of XA-180 Armoured Vehicles in Finland

Patria has successfully finalized the Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) initiative for the XA-180 armoured personnel carriers, as the final units have now been handed over to the Finnish Army. The MLU contract for the XA-180 armoured personnel carriers was established between Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces in 2013.

“The ‘XA-series’, commonly referred to as “Pasi” vehicles, modernization initiative has been a significant undertaking for Patria, ensuring the longevity of these vehicles through to the 2040s. By that timeframe, the mobility capabilities of XA-180 vehicles are anticipated to be enhanced by the introduction of the new Patria 6×6 vehicles. Patria values the adaptable collaboration with the Finnish Defence Forces and various other partners. In Finland, the employment impact of this project has exceeded 450 person-years in total,” remarked Tommi Svensk, leader of Patria’s Army Business Area within the Finland Division.

Throughout this initiative, all XA-series vehicles have undergone modernization and standardization. The implemented enhancements included new electrical systems and communication technologies, as well as an upgraded crew compartment featuring enhanced seating arrangements. Additionally, vital components such as engines, power transmission systems, and axles were examined and repaired, or replaced where necessary.
