Collins Aerospace Secures Another Victory in U.S. Army’s HMS Manpack Radio Initiative
Collins Aerospace has secured a second full-rate manufacturing contract from the U.S. Army to deliver AN/PRC-162 ground radios for the Handheld, Manpack, and Small Form Fit (HMS) initiative.
The AN/PRC-162 is a dual-channel networked communication ground radio that supports various waveforms – encompassing both narrowband and wideband – high-speed mobile ad hoc networking, point-to-point data transfer, voice, next-generation SATCOM, and cutting-edge IP-based waveform communications in-theater. This device also offers enhanced power output, extended battery life, and superior signal sensitivity within one of the most compact designs available.
The AN/PRC-162 empowers the Army to sustain interoperability with legacy waveforms such as the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS), along with next-gen waveforms like Trellisware’s TSM® waveform and Warrior Robust Enhanced Network (WREN) waveform. Furthermore, the AN/PRC-162 incorporates upgraded tactical satellite communications via the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) implementation.
