Tri-Nation Pact: Finland, Latvia, and Patria Unite for Innovative Armored Vehicle Development

Finland and Latvia, in collaboration with Patria, have established a research and development (R&D) accord for a shared armoured vehicle system. This agreement marks a significant advancement in their cooperative initiative following the recent signing of a joint technical arrangement (TA) last spring.

The objective of the R&D agreement is to create a unified armoured vehicle system, grounded in the Patria 6×6 platform, tailored to fulfill the collective specifications of the nations involved. Additionally, the agreement paves the way for the exploration of various new vehicle configurations and system enhancements in the future. The collaborative Finnish-Latvian research and development entity will oversee and guide the development activities, with Finland taking the lead role.

“This presents a remarkable opportunity for us, and we are convinced that this initiative will yield positive outcomes for all stakeholders. It represents a distinctive multinational collaboration based on identified shared advantages over the entire lifespan of the system. Patria is honored to contribute our expertise in the joint development initiatives associated with this program. The participating nations aim for a highly cost-efficient solution that will undoubtedly attract the interest of additional countries eager to bolster their military mobility,” states Jussi Järvinen, President of Patria’s Land business division.

Patria unveiled its 6×6 vehicle at Eurosatory in 2018. The Patria 6×6 vehicle encapsulates all the established attributes of Patria’s XA and AMV platforms. It is user-friendly, dependable, and engineered to satisfy the utmost demands of clients. Its advanced terrain mobility is assured by a powerful engine and the independent suspension system derived from Patria’s AMV platform. With a roomy cabin and clearly defined functionalities, the vehicle is straightforward to operate and train upon. The reliability and reduced lifecycle expenses are emphasized by the wide array of commercial components employed in the vehicle.

The primary sectors of Patria’s Land business unit encompass armoured wheeled vehicles, mortar systems, and comprehensive lifecycle support services. The business unit employs 230 professionals in Hämeenlinna and Tampere.
