“Finland Strengthens Defense with Acquisition of 91 Patria 6×6 Armoured Vehicles”
The Finnish Defence Forces have acquired Patria 6×6 armored vehicles as an element of the multinational Finland-led CAVS (Common Armoured Vehicle Systems) initiative, which also involves Latvia, Sweden, and Germany. Patria formalized the contract for 91 vehicles with the Logistics Command of the Finnish Defence Forces. Beyond the vehicles, the procurement encompasses spare components, tools, and training for operation and maintenance, along with an option to purchase an additional 70 vehicles. Deliveries are set to commence in 2023.
In 2022, the Finnish Defence Forces obtained three prototype vehicles that were utilized for testing prior to the formal serial order. Throughout the testing phase, the Finnish Army was able to acquaint themselves with the various functions and operational applications of Patria 6×6 vehicles, while also establishing the final criteria for the vehicles in the serial order.
“Finland’s serial order represents a significant achievement for the entire CAVS initiative. With this contract, Patria 6×6 armored vehicles are now being produced in Hämeenlinna, Finland for three nations. This serial order stands as the most substantial vehicle contract between Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces in decades. In Finland, Patria 6×6 vehicles follow the legacy of the XA-series vehicles, widely recognized as Pasi, as we strive to enhance the capabilities and mobility of the Finnish Army at least until the 2060s or perhaps even longer,” states Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Finland Division.
The multinational CAVS initiative has progressed as intended. Germany has recently joined the program, while Sweden has placed an order for its initial 20 vehicles. Deliveries to Latvia have been ongoing since 2021. The collaborative 6×6 vehicle initiative has garnered interest and is available to additional countries with the agreement of the participating nations.
