“Hanwha Aerospace Emerges as Top Contender for Australia’s Land 400 Phase 3 Project”
Hanwha Aerospace proclaimed that its subsidiary, Hanwha Defense Australia (HDA), has been designated as the preferred bidder for the Land 400 Phase 3 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) initiative featuring the Redback IFV.
This initiative encompasses 129 vehicles over two giants and will be delivered under an expedited timeline, in accordance with the Australian Army’s Defence Strategic Review.
This decision represents the first instance where a South Korean defense firm has been selected as a preferred bidder for a program by a military of an AUKUS member, underscored by technical proficiency and the capability to meet the Australian Army’s evolving needs.
“The selection of the Redback for the Australian Army is a remarkable achievement, not solely for the soldiers, who will receive an IFV meticulously designed and manufactured for them, but also for the enhancement of relationships between Australia and the Republic of Korea,” stated Son Jae-il, CEO and President of Hanwha Aerospace. “Hanwha’s selection as the preferred bidder for the Land 400 Phase 3 carries significant consequences for Korea-Australia defense and economic collaboration.”
The Redback IFV is Hanwha Aerospace’s inaugural successful export model that was conceived, developed, and tested for an international government collaborator.
“We are thrilled for the upcoming phase of this initiative, which will enable HDA and Australian industry to deliver a premier IFV to the Australian Army,” remarked Richard Cho, Managing Director of HDA. “I wish to express gratitude to our industry allies who supported us during the Risk Mitigation Activity amid the demanding circumstances that COVID posed and since then as we fine-tuned our successful proposal to the Commonwealth.”
