Rheinmetall AG and Defence Equipment and Support, the UK’s armament procurement authority, have formalized a fresh framework agreement for the repeated acquisition of infantry ammunition. This framework agreement will serve as the primary supply source for designated impact rounds, munitions, and grenades over the upcoming 5-7 years, with an anticipated turnover of up to €100 million (£90 million).
Rheinmetall is consistently growing its stature as a key provider of munitions. Just days earlier, the Dutch military also extended a partnership agreement for ammunition supply with the Düsseldorf-based expert in security and mobility technology, which will last until the conclusion of 2030.
The renewed contract with the British procurement authorities establishes Rheinmetall as the preferred provider of 25 distinct infantry ammunition products, produced across four facilities located in Germany and Switzerland. Simon Valencia, Sales Director of Rheinmetall Weapon and Munitions UK, remarked, “We are thrilled to renew our longstanding supply agreement with the UK MoD and offer the British Armed Forces dependable, high-quality products that have been validated both operationally and in training over the past fifteen years. This new contract ensures the UK MoD receives value for its investment and maintains confidence in the reliable supply of assured munitions products. The UK MoD remains a significant strategic ally for Rheinmetall, and this new agreement bolsters our ongoing expansion into the UK Defence Sector.”
Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) is presently engaged in negotiating a series of framework agreements with defence suppliers to facilitate repeated procurement of active munitions. The agreement with Rheinmetall Defence marks the inaugural contract DE&S has ratified with the ammunition industry on framework terms, representing a positive evolution in the UK MoD’s engagement with the industry.
