Hyundai Rotem Launches Region-Specific K2 Main Battle Tank for the Middle East
Hyundai Rotem, the defense division of Hyundai Motor Group, has proudly introduced the region-specific variant of its K2 main battle tank, known as the K2ME. This unveiling took place at a ceremonial event in Changwon, about 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The K2ME model is crafted for export, developed in collaboration with various industrial partners, and tailored to excel in extremely hot conditions, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 50°C. Notable enhancements include a re-engineered radiator for the powertrain and a specialized auxiliary cooling system dedicated to the turret.
In terms of supply chain advancements, Hyundai Rotem has declared its goal to increase the localization of manufactured components to roughly 90%. This strategic initiative aims to reduce reliance on foreign parts and navigate any export restrictions.
During the rollout, CEO Lee Young-bae emphasized that this project emerges at a pivotal moment for global security dynamics, asserting that its successful implementation will bolster South Korea’s competitiveness within the international defense industry.
