Following the ceremonial ground-breaking taking place in August 2020 in Petresti (DB), Romania, the innovative manufacturing facility has been swiftly constructed and production scaling commenced in February, fueled by a robust industrial collaboration. The grand opening occurred on April 9th.

In December 2019, Iveco Defence Vehicles formalized an agreement with the Romanian Ministry of National Defence as part of a broader framework contract, comprising the procurement of over 2,900 versatile mobility trucks. Several months later, in August 2020, the ceremonial ground-breaking was celebrated in Romania’s automotive hub known as Petresti (Dambovita).

The global pandemic posed significant hurdles to the entire European supply chain; however, the company’s dedication to the Romanian Ministry of National Defence remains unwavering: construction activities have swiftly concluded, and the newly established assembly line for the National Armed Forces is now poised to commence operations.

Among the guests at the inauguration were President of the Senate Anca Dana Dragu, President of the Chamber of Deputies Ludovic Orban, Minister of Energy Virgil-Daniel Popescu, General Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence Georgeta Gavrila, and His Excellency the Italian Ambassador Marco Giungi.

Claudio Catalano, CEO of Iveco Defence Vehicles, who also attended the event, remarked: “Our partnership with Romania, which began in 2015, has strengthened immensely: this inauguration showcases our steadfast commitment to local investments and collaborations.”

As per the agreement, mass production of the vehicles is anticipated to commence shortly, with an estimated annual production capacity of up to 440 units, also leveraging production support from Iveco Defence Vehicles’ facilities in Italy.
