“Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics Forge Powerful Alliance for Rocket Motor Innovation”
Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) have revealed the establishment of a cooperative agreement for the manufacturing of solid rocket motors, enhancing security and resilience within a crucial domestic supply chain.
“Upholding a strong and varied supply chain for solid rocket motors is essential to progressing our 21st Century Security® strategy for a more robust, resilient defense industrial sector that ensures our clients worldwide stay ahead of evolving threats. This agreement empowers Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics to accelerate production of high-demand solutions more rapidly in the future,” stated Tim Cahill, president of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.
“We are delighted to utilize our knowledge in missile subsystems to introduce new capabilities that will enhance the resilience of the domestic supply chain,” remarked Firat Gezen, president of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS). “The partnership between GD-OTS and Lockheed Martin emphasizes our joint commitment to fortifying the defense industrial sector and delivering critical capabilities to the warfighter.”
Initial efforts will concentrate on the fabrication of solid rocket motors for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) and will take place at the General Dynamics facility in Camden, Arkansas, commencing in 2025. This initiative will be succeeded by a phased planning approach to transition to additional products.
GD-OTS will augment its operations in Camden by harnessing advanced manufacturing techniques to supply cost-effective and dependable solid rocket motors at scale.
This development follows the recent launch of Lockheed Martin’s Solid Rocket Motor Product Center, aimed at improving the reliability of supply for economical propulsion systems.
