Lockheed Martin Secures $383 Million U.S. Navy Contract for Future Maritime Defense Innovations

The U.S. Navy has granted Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) a remarkable $383 million cost-plus-incentive-fee and cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to its current contract dedicated to the advancement of the next-generation Trident II Strategic Weapons System (SWS) D5 missile, ensuring the nation’s maritime strategic deterrence continues.

Under this contract modification, Lockheed Martin will develop the enhanced missile, known as the Trident II D5 Life Extension 2 (D5LE2). This modernized, integrated missile will be deployed on COLUMBIA-class ballistic missile submarines to guarantee that the strategic weapons system remains viable until 2084.

“The second life extension of the Trident D5 missile will empower the United States and United Kingdom, via the Polaris Sales Agreement, to sustain credibility against emerging threats,” stated Jerry Mamrol, vice president of Fleet Ballistic Missiles at Lockheed Martin. “We are honored to persist in our vital collaboration with the U.S. Navy to advance deterrence into this new era.”

Enhancing Deterrence

The D5 missile, designed and enhanced by Lockheed Martin for the Navy, stands as the most sophisticated ballistic missile globally and is presently deployed on U.S. OHIO-class and U.K. VANGUARD-class submarines. This year, Lockheed Martin celebrates 70 years of commitment to the Navy, developing and maintaining the missiles that constitute the foundation for the nation’s sea-based defense through the company’s Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBM) program.

Lockheed Martin’s FBM program is essential for safeguarding American and allied security, driven by innovation through cutting-edge digital technologies, advanced facilities, and a culture of excellence.

New Florida Facility for the Future

Lockheed Martin is initiating the construction of an approximately 225,000 square foot facility in Titusville, Florida, aimed at producing components for the D5LE2 submarine-launched ballistic missile.

This new facility increases Lockheed Martin’s footprint in Florida’s Space Coast and is projected to generate around 300 highly-skilled employment opportunities.

“Under the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida continues to invest in our aerospace, aviation, military, and defense sectors – fostering high-skill, high-wage job opportunities within the state,” expressed Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “Strategic investments like this advance Florida’s workforce by adding 300 jobs and ensuring economic prosperity for local communities.”

The facility is expected to begin operations in 2027 to fulfill the Navy’s production demands and support the service for the upcoming 60 years.
